Company Background
Global Commodities (UK) Limited was formed in January 2001. During the year prior to this the companies founder, Dennis Thouless had undertaken extensive feasibility trials and market research into the potential for bio-diesel. it was established that recycled vegetable oil (RVO) and virgin oil (VO) could be processed into bio-diesel, however the anticipated changes in the market place for RVO and the economics of producing bio-diesel from VO in the UK dictated that the business should initially concentrate its efforts on processing RVO. In the year following the Company formation a development plant was constructed and refinement of the process took place. In February 2002 the company's first product, driveECO bio-diesel was launched into the market place. The development plant was scaled up to become the first pupose built factory of its kind to be constructed in the UK. The driceECO (biodiesel) product has undergone a programme of vigorous testing both at Globals in-house laboratory and by independant research establishments. Analysis of the relevant components took place to determine that the product complied with the UK and EU standards for diesel and bio-diesel.
The Global business has a policy of continuous improvement, which has had the effect of improving the production process; the result of this has been increased yields and a faster process.
Other Firsts
Global Commodities was the first business in England to be awarded a low emission Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control permit in keeping with the companies environmental policy in all aspects of the way it conducts business.
The production process, whcih has been developed by Global, is unique; the comapny has pioneered the production of bio-diesel in the UK, setting standards for others to follow.
The development of processes that mean that almost 100% of the material coming through the factory leaves as a useful and saleable product.
The Product
The driveECO product is a pure 100% bio-fuel; it is mixed with mineral diesel by customers at varying rates normally up to a maximum of 50% inclusion. Testing of the product at 100% inclusion has been undertaken with no adverse effects on vehicle performance or engine wear. The driveECO product (biodiesel) can be used in diesel engines without any modification and easily mixes in any proportion with conventional diesel.
The driveECO (biodiesel) product meets both the rigorous EN14214 European quality standard and the EN590 standard for blended product whcih is the retail pump quality standard, regular testing takes place to ensure that the product continues to meet these standards.
Global Commodities (UK) Limited is committed to protecting the environment through the research and development of environmentally friendly products. Their flagship product, driveECO bio-diesel is currently produced from the first purpose built factory in the UK, based in Dereham, Norfolk. Indeed driveECO (biodiesel) has set the standard for other bio-diesel manufacturers to follow.

The Global buiness is the leading producer of bio-diesel in the UK; the company strategy is to maintain this position with the opening of new production sites across the UK. The company will concentrate on producing the highest quality product in the market place and offering excellent shareholder value by being the lowest cost producer.
Supplies of recycled vegetable oil
Global are always looking for new suppliers of recycled vegetable oil and economic types of virgin oil for example jatropha. We do have strict quality standards which we will be happy to discuss with potential suppliers.
Markets
The markets that were available to the business initially were regional fuel companies and haulage businesses. As production levels increased new markets were developed and the company now has supply contracts which see the driveECO (biodiesel) product being distributed nationally in the UK by large fuel distribution businesses and also being exported into large European markets. The potential for the product in the UK is positive with Government policy under negotiation for bio-diesel to be incorporated into mineral diesel supplies. The likely outcome is for this to be achieved under a process of business obligation. The objective is the gradual compliance with the European Policy. This states that bio-diesel should be incorporated with mineral diesel at the rate of 2% by 2005 which increases to a 5.75% inclusion by 2010.

Robert Collins, Financial and Production Director, known as Bob to his friends and colleagues, is a certified accountant with 22 years experiance at senior level in professional practice and commercial business environments. Bob joined us from the Aldiss Group where he started as financial director and moving up to managing director. |
