A Norfolk company today launched a revolutionary purpose-built factory producing diesel from vegetable oil.
Global Commodities UK Ltd, of Shipdham, produces driveECO bio-diesel.
The product – which can be used in all vehicles in the same way as normal diesel – has been hailed as a major environmental breakthrough.
It currently costs about 87p per litre compared with an average of 73p for conventional diesel. But from April duties on "green" fuels will be cut, slashing the price by 20p per litre.
Composed of renewable resources such as vegetable oil, driveECO does not add to the CO2 burden, it also burns cleaner than conventional diesels available as it emits less nitrogen during oxides during combustion.
The bio-diesel does not produce black smoke and fumes that we have come to expect from current diesel engines.
It is also low-toxic and does not contribute towards dermatitis, skin cancer, allergies or persistent environmental damage.
Global Commodities managing director Dennis Thouless said: "Sounds too good to be true – England needs to believe it! By closing our eyes to the problem of global warming it won't go away."
