'Cream of the crop at a night to remember'
Start-up Business of the Year (Sponsored by Gotelee & Goldsmith)
Winner Global Commodities UK Ltd, Shipdham, near Thetford.
Global Commodities is the UK's largest producer of bio diesel, with its driveECO product - a renewable and environmentally-friendly road fuel derived from vegetable oil - having been launched on to the market in February last year. It has been self-funded by local entrepreneur Dennis Thouless and has already grown its workforce to 12 and its turnover to £3.5 million, with further major expansion planned with the opening of a new production facility in Lowestoft.
Environment (Sponsored by Jacob Bailey)
Winner Global Commodities UK Ltd, Shipdham, near Thetford.
When Customs & Excise tested vehicles running on Global's bio diesel, which is produced from vegetable oils, they found the emissions were cleaner than the air we breathe. Our haulage company has already reduced its CO2 emissions by 4,000 tonnes a year by using the product and, as a pioneer of bio fuels, Global is the first fuel company in the UK to be awarded the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control permit, for businesses which minimise emissions and waste.
