Environmentally-friendly biodiesel from a Shipdham company is applauded by judges.
Global Commodities UK, which from its factory at Shipdham is hoping to "fuel a better world", has won the Persimmon-sponsored Environment Award.
And the main way it hopes to achieve that is via driveECO, a biodiesel that has enormous environment-friendly advantages over traditional fuel. The company received a major boost at the end of July when excise duty was reduced by 20p per litre on all biodiesel fuel. "This means that driveECO biodiesel is now not only kinder to the environment but also kinder to your pocket. Without doubt fuel for a better world," said managing director Dennis Thouless. "We have been greatly encouraged by the public interest which has been phenomenal. Coupled with the Government's tax reduction, we are actively pursuing bringing driveECO to a number of local garages. "The tax reduction battle has been won not only for Global Commodities UK, but for every diesel user in the country and, more importantly, it is a great victory for our environment." The judges said: "What Dennis Thouless has already achieve with a small team and only his own resources is truly remarkable. The products he is producing – certainly in the case of driveECO – will hopefully have a profound effect on all of us in the next few years." Mr Thouless said: "Winning the award means the recognition of our legacy and endeavours to preserve our environment for future generations. It raises the profile of driveECO biodiesel and other environmentally-friendly products by brining them to the forefront. "We hope that this encourages the public and politicians alike to sit up, take notice and support environmentally friendly products and businesses at every opportunity. It is a great accolade for everyone who shares our vision of fuelling a better world".
